The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America
in The State of Colorado

Organized in 1896

Welcome!

You have landed on the website for The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in The State of Colorado, or NSCDA in CO. Thank you for your interest in our mission-based membership organization, founded in Colorado in 1896, with a mission of historic preservation, education, and patriotic service. In Colorado, we lean into historic preservation as we own two museum properties.

The Hotel de Paris Museum was a first-class mining boom hotel, founded by Frenchman Louis Dupuy in 1875, which still stands as a hub of the historic core of Georgetown, CO. The Hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places, a National Historic Landmark and a Site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. We still have a guest register from the Hotel, and Coloradans love to find their ancestors in the register online! Be sure not to miss our myriad events such as the Christmas Market in December, Bastille Day in July, wine tastings and many other new events throughout the year.

The McAllister House Museum resides on historic Cascade Avenue in Colorado Springs, CO. It is the oldest intact residence in Colorado Springs, built in 1874 by Major Henry McAllister after his close friend, General William Palmer asked him to move West to found "Fountain Colony". The Museum is on the Register of Historic Places, and 2023 marked the 150th anniversary of this significant property. Harvest Festival, a large event in September, is a fun time to celebrate the abundance of the season, plus many more fun events take place and pop up all year round.

These properties are Great American Treasures sites. To learn more, please go to the websites herein:

The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA) is dedicated to furthering an appreciation of our national heritage through historic preservation, patriotic service and educational projects.  The NSCDA, founded in 1891, is an unincorporated association of 44 Corporate Societies with over 15,000 members.  The Society headquarters is located at Dumbarton House, a Federal period museum in Washington, D.C.

The objects of this Society:

  • Collect and preserve manuscripts, traditions, relics, and mementos of bygone days;

  • Preserve and restore buildings connected with the early history of our country;

  • Educate our fellow citizens and ourselves in our country's history and thus diffuse healthful and intelligent information concerning the past;

  • Create a popular interest in our Colonial history;

  • Stimulate a spirit of true patriotism and a genuine love of country; and

  • Impress upon the young the sacred obligation of honoring the memory of those heroic ancestors whose ability, valor, sufferings, and achievements are beyond all praise.
